New Major Superiors for MCBS

MCBS got new major Superiors: The Ordinary General Synaxis of the Congregation which was held on 03-07th March, 2008 at MCBS Generalate, Aluva elected Fr. George Kizhakkemury as the new Superior General of the Congregation and Rev. Fr. John Puthenpurayil as the Assistant Superior General and Rev. Fr. George Vallikattukuzhiyil as the Auditor General and Rev. Frs. Antony Vandanath and Jose Thundathil as Councilors

The Provincial Synaxis of Emmaus and Zion Province were also held in the month of April.

Emmaus Province:

  • Fr. Francis Kodiyan- Provincial Superior

  • Fr. Antony Kalapura- Assistant Superior

  • Fr. Thomas Plathottam- Auditor General

  • Fr. George Vadakkeparambil -Councilor

Zion Province:

  • Fr. Augustine Paikattu- Provincial Superior

  • Fr. Thomas Pattery – Assistant Superior

General Synaxis:

The General Synaxis of MCBS started on 03rd March 2008. After the election and some primary discussions the first session ended on 07th March. The second session started on 19th May 2008 and ended on 22nd May. The third session will start on 20th July and will probably end on 22nd July 2008.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

The Platinum jubilee of MCBS Congregation was celebrated on 06th and 07th May 2008.

May 06: The celebrations were marked by the reception of DEEPASIKHA lighted from the tomb of its founders at Kaduvakulam, Kottayam. It was followed by the solemn Holy Qurbana. Rev. Fr. General, George Kizhakkemury, celebrated the Qurbana and Rev. Provincials of Emmaus and Zion Provinces con-celebrated with him. It was an occasion of the final profession and vestition of our Brothers. 17 brothers received vestition and 17 took final profession. The day, May 06th, was totally spent in praise and thanksgiving in front of the Eucharistic Lord which was concluded by Eucharistic Procession and message by His Excellency Bishop Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath, Aux. Bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly arch-diocese.

The evening of the day was lightened not only by the lights but also by the valuable presence of the MCBS members from all over the world. It was the occasion of the Family gathering. Two Bishops from MCBS Congregation- Mar Thomas Elavanal and Mar Joseph Arumachadath, Rev. General and Provincials etcwere present on the stage. The gathering honoured the Bishops, Golden Jubilarian and the Silver Jubilarians with garlands and gifts. Variety entertainments by the philosophers, regents and theologians added flavour to the gathering.

May 07: The Platinum Jubilee celebrations came to end on May 07th 2008 by solemn Holy Qurbana celebrated by His Beatitude Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithyathil, head of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. Mar Thomas Elavanal, Bishop of kalyan and Mar Joseph Arumachadath, Bishop of Bhadravati and Rev. Fr. General and Rev. Fr. Provincials and former Superior General con-celebrated the Mass with him. The Mass was followed by the Public meeting at 03.00 pm. His Grace Mar Andrews Thazheth, Archbishop of Thrissur gave the inaugural address. His Grace Mar George Valiyamattom, Archbishop of Thalassery, was the President of the meeting. Justice Kurian Joseph, Hon. Judge of High Court, was the chief guest of the meeting. People from different walks of life, including major superiors of different congregations, priests from nearby parishes and persons from political field said felicitation on the occasion. The meeting and celebrations came to a glorious end by the variety dance entertainments from the students from Jyothi School Nalamile, Divyahrudaya Ashram, Chennaippara and MAPS English Medium School, Mettipadom.

Annual Retreat

The Annual Retreat for the year 2008 is scheduled for the following dates:

  • 2008 August 17-22 at Sannidhana, Illithode

  • 2008 October 5-10 at Sanathana, Thamarassery

  • 2008 November 9-14 at Machinahally, Shimoga
